Publishing on Digitalbook is free. Start now, upgrade later.

Why publish with us

  1. Free to publish

No upfront fee, no subscription, and no charge per title. Upload as many audiobooks as you like and share revenue only when a book actually sells.

  2. 70% royalties

You keep 70% of every sale, in the currency you priced the book in. The rate is the same on your first title as on your hundredth — there is no tier to climb and no exclusivity to sign away to earn it.

  3. Protected audio

Every chapter is converted to an encrypted stream. The decryption key is released only to a listener who owns the book, so your recording is never a plain audio file sitting on a public URL.

  4. A ready audience

More than 100,000 people use Digitalbook every month. Your book is listed alongside the catalogue they are already browsing rather than launching to an empty shelf.

  5. Your rights stay yours

Publishing here is not a transfer of rights. You keep the copyright in your recording, you are free to sell it elsewhere, and you can take it down whenever you choose.

  6. Your price

Set the price yourself, in your own currency, and change it whenever you want. Giving a book away free is a first-class choice, not a discount to zero.

  1. Paid to your bank

Royalties are paid monthly, straight to your own bank account, once a sales month has cleared its 30-day hold and your balance passes the minimum. Anything below it carries over rather than disappearing.

  2. Real numbers

Your dashboard reports listeners, downloads, sales and earnings per book and per month — including what a buyer paid and what you earned from it, so the split is stated rather than inferred.

  3. Found by listeners

Approved books are listed in the catalogue, sorted into their genres and languages, surfaced in search, and published to the site’s feeds. Discovery does not depend on you buying ads.

  4. A global shelf

Digitalbook is browsed in twelve languages by listeners around the world, so a recording in a language with a small local market still reaches the people looking for it.

  5. Published in an afternoon

Upload your chapters, add a cover, description, genres and languages, trim a short preview clip, and submit for review. No contract, no production budget, and no wait measured in months.

  6. Nothing is permanent

A published book can be unpublished, corrected and released again. A typo in a description or a chapter that needs re-recording is something you fix, not something you live with.

How it works

Seven steps, in the order the portal asks for them. Most of an afternoon is the recording — the rest is this form.

  1. Bibliographic data

Title, author, description and the language the book is read in. These are the four the form will not let you past without.

  2. Classification

At least one BISAC category, which is what puts the book on the right shelves. Search keywords are optional here, and worth adding — they are how a listener who does not know the title finds it.

  3. Rights and Earning

Declare what entitles you to publish — your own work, a licence, or the public domain — and disclose whether the book was authored by a human, by AI, or by both. Then set your price and the single currency it sells in.

  4. Cover Image

Square through to 9:16 portrait. Not strictly required to submit, but a book without one is far less likely to be opened.

  5. Chapters

Upload your recordings, in order, and trim the short preview clip anyone can play before buying. The clip is converted in your browser, and a converted clip is required before you can submit.

  6. Agreement

Read the Audiobook Distribution Agreement and accept it for this book. It is shown in full rather than behind a link, and the exact version you accepted is recorded against that book, so a later revision is never applied to you retrospectively.

  7. Review & Submit

Check the whole entry on one page and send it for review. Nothing here is permanent — a published book can be unpublished, corrected and released again.

After you submit, a moderator checks the audio and the details you entered. Once approved, every chapter is converted to an encrypted stream and the book is listed in the catalogue and its feeds, ready to buy or to download free.

Definitions

Creator

A creator is anyone who records and releases their own audiobooks on Digitalbook.io. That might be an author narrating their own work, a voice artist building a catalogue, a small publisher bringing a backlist to a new audience, or a volunteer reading a public domain classic aloud. There is no minimum catalogue and no reputation test — a first-time narrator is listed on the same shelves as an established publisher, and every submission goes through the same review. Being a creator is not the same as being a narrator: you can commission or collaborate on a reading and still be the creator who brings it to listeners. What the role really means here is ownership of the whole chain — the recording, the cover, the description, the price, and the decision about when the book goes live.

Publish

Publishing is the step that turns a finished recording into a book listeners can find. Traditionally it meant a contract, a production budget and a wait measured in months; here it means uploading your chapters, adding a cover, title, description, genres and languages, and trimming a short preview clip that anyone can play before buying. When you submit for review, a moderator checks the audio and the details you have entered. Once approved, each chapter is converted for streaming, the book is listed in the catalogue and its feeds, and it becomes available to buy or to download free, whichever you chose. Publishing is not a one-way door — a published book can be unpublished, corrected and released again, so a typo in a description or a chapter that needs re-recording is never permanent.
